Freda Price
Freda Price Petyarre is a Utopian woman who is daughter to well-known artist, Anna Price Petyarre. Utopia is located approximately 300km North East of Alice Springs and is an area that is abundant with the Bush Yam.
The bush yam plant (‘Anaty’) is one of the most reliable sources of food found in Freda’s country. The yam is most abundant after the rain when the root system is at its most prolific stage of regeneration. The bush yam grows underground with a viny shrub that grows above ground up to one metre high, and is normally found on spinifex sand plains and produces a large pink or yellow flower after the summer rain.
