About Jeannie Mills Pwerle
Jeannie Mills Pwerle born in 1965, is from the community of Utopia, 300 kilometers northeast of Alice Springs. Her traditional country is Irrwelty and Atnwengerrp and her mother and uncle, both famous artists, are Dolly Mills Petyarre and Greeny Purvis Petyarre.
In her childhood, Jeannie was exposed to the success that Indigenous artists experienced as they experimented with acrylic on canvas. She inherited the Anaty (Desert Yam Bush Potato) technique that led to the development of her painting style.
Design Inspiration
Jeannie has developed her own unique style while still representing the bush yam from her country. The yam's remarkable root structure is represented by the linear work in Jeannie's artworks, while the seeds are represented by the dots. The Anaty have an ancient Dreamtime myth that artists are taught as they get older. Indigenous artists are able to pay homage to the Anaty and urge its continued renewal by representing it in their artwork.
Jeannie's work is distinctive and instantly recognisable. Her paintings, with their many colour tones, create fascinating items in the home since their colours shift softly, deepen, or brighten with each nuance of ambient light. They are wonderful choices for those who enjoy colourful and modern interior design decor.
